A slideshow presentation by Sally Willowbee

Sally Willowbee who wrote the article Plastic Bag Kaleidoscope in the first issue of riffRAG is presenting her full talk and slideshow next weekend at the American Visionary Museum in Baltimore. This museum emphasizes "art produced by self-taught individuals, usually without formal training, whose works arise from an innate personal vision that revels foremost in the creative act itself." Check them out if you're in the area!

TRASHY WOMEN: A slideshow presentation by Sally Willowbee
Saturday, October 22, 2005 11 am-1 pm

Through narrative and slides, this presentation looks at women–some with formal art training and others with none–who collect trash and transform it into objects of beauty, retaining the old stories as well as creating new ones. These artists collect the unwanted, the unvalued, and the unloved pieces of our material culture. They teach us to look through their eyes and see the beauty and the possibilities. This is an ever-growing and changing slide show as Sally finds, collects, and includes more women. In this throwaway society where there is no away, reusing and reclaiming junk is one creative response to a huge, overwhelming problem. $20
