Cecile Belmont & Natalia Torales
Schaufenster
For the project “Schaufenster” we
installed ourselves inside a shop window wearing clothes depicting
images of daily desires. We executed some simple actions inspired
from the waiting time. “We are looking for a permanent Job,” was
written on the glass of the shop window. With this we refer to
the precarious situation of the independent artist and to the question
of how much an artist has to turn into a product to make a living.
As women and artists, we were turned into a commercial product,
exhibited as curiosities trying to catch attention. By transposing
the place of representation to the street, we offered a free and
amazing show. The reactions of the people were enthusiastic, surprised,
shy or falsely indifferent.
