Ellen Korbonski
Before and After
The belief that we have the power to
alter both our appearance and persona is as much a part of the
American myth as Norma Jean transforming into Marilyn Monroe or
Michael Jackson changing the color of his skin. To be human in
this country, one must confront and perhaps wrestle with issues
of the body and its image, be them race-, gender- or age-related.
My work is a visual exploration of the space between "Before" and "After," the
real and the ideal and the search for self.
