Tara Polansky
Lungs

Chinese medical theory upholds that when someone is unable to let go of a moment, they hold onto that moment in their lungs and experience difficulty breathing. This is the location of grief and loss. Like many others who lived and worked in New York in September 2001, I breathed in air that was full of the Twin Towers and everything that they were made of—mercury, lead, asbestos, etc. It got stuck in my lungs and I carried it with me for several years in the form of my newly-developed asthma. This work in clay is a rebuilding of the World Trade Center and the very tender internal organs that hold them.
